Course overview

Neurographica is a unique and innovative art therapy technique that combines elements of psychology, neuroscience, and artistic expression. It offers a creative approach to understanding and processing complex emotions, thoughts, and experiences. With its potential to unlock the power of the subconscious mind, Neurographica has found applications in various fields, including simulation and debriefing. In this course, we delve into the fundamentals of Neurographica and explore its exciting potential in the realm of simulation.

3 learning objectives

  1. participants will be able to create a Neurographica drawing, applying various foundational techniques to express their thoughts and emotions,

  2. participants will have an understanding of the principles underlying Neurographica, enabling them to recognize its potential for promoting emotional well-being and self-awareness.

  3. participants will be equipped with the skills to effectively integrate Neurographica self-debriefing.

In my current role as a lecturer at SUNY Downstate, School of Nursing and part time simulationist at Columbia University, I am responsible for providing simulation experiences for the undergraduate nursing students. Prior to this, I served as an Assistant Dean for Simulation and Online Learning at the Helene Fuld College of Nursing. In this capacity, I actively participated in simulation curriculum development, implemented innovative teaching strategies in the BSN and ADN programs, and provided training to faculty and adjunct faculty on simulation and Debriefing with Good Judgment. My academic background further attests to my commitment to this field. In 2020, I earned a Certificate in Simulation from Drexel University. A year later, I became a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, and in 2022, I was fortunate to participate in the NLN Leadership Development for Simulation Educators Program. As a member of several professional organizations, including the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation & Learning (INACSL), I have sought to stay updated on the latest best practices in the field. I am proud to have been a co-chair for the INACSL's Virtual Simulation Special Interest Group and I am the chair of the Mindfulness group at SSH. I have presented on various simulation-related topics at several conferences, including INACSL and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
