The presenters will aim to provide webinar participants with the opportunity to learn about the design and integration of a multi-patient simulation, including the use of a virtual simulation as a pre-simulation activity.   Webinar content will include how project leaders used the NCSBN Clinical Judgement Measurement Model in the design of this learning experience for upper-level learners

Diana Dupont is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John, bringing a wealth of experience in medical/surgical and emergency nursing. Since joining UNB in 2014, Diana has developed a particular interest in simulation, specifically how simulation can be used to immerse students in complex clinical situations. In 2021, she achieved the Canadian Certified Simulation Nurse Educator designation from CASN, highlighting her commitment to advancing nursing education through thoughtful and innovative approaches.

Erika Kinney is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John. As a member of the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences since 2020, Erika has a keen interest in acute care nursing, developing resilient new nurses, and focuses on fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment that allows students to engage in critical thinking and knowledge translation in a safe and effective manner. Erika has recently been involved in the development and implementation of simulation activities to help students have rich learning experiences they otherwise may not have in the acute care environment.

Dr. Karen E. Furlong is a Teaching Professor, Department of Nursing and Health Sciences, University of New Brunswick (UNB), Saint John site. Karen’s research interests focus on changing nursing competencies in response to an increased use of digital health platforms. Karen has also assumed a lead role in fostering a collaborative and evidence-informed approach to the use of simulations as an effective/meaningful teaching and learning modality. Experiences include both in-person and virtual simulations and often involve interprofessional education initiatives. In 2020, Karen successfully completed the Canadian Association Schools of Nursing Simulation Certificate Program.

Jaime Riley serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of New Brunswick, bringing expertise in acute care nursing to her role. As an experienced registered nurse and advanced practice nurse in emergency medicine, she has gained valuable experience that has fueled her commitment to nursing education. Jaime has a profound passion for facilitating learning opportunities in acute care, health assessment, and simulation.
 

Jaime continually seeks opportunities for the meaningful integration of simulation as a modality, for experiential learning opportunities to help students achieve their learning needs. Jaime is committed to advancing nursing education through innovative and immersive teaching methods.
